Jackie Chan was born on the 7th of April 1954 in Hong Kong to the couple of Charles and Lee-Lee Chan. He was the only child. His father was a cook for the French Ambassador and his mother was the housekeeper. As a child he was admitted to the Nah-Hwa primary school on Hong Kong Island but almost everyday he used to spend his travel money on food and therefore returned home walking. On the way he used to fight with the Caucasian kids who attended the special schools in that area. He was not good at studies therefore his father decided to put him in the Peking Opera School.
After some time his father and mother went to Australia to work for the Chinese Embassy. Jackie named Yuen Lo in the school, adopted by his master was starting to feel the pressure when he had to train for 18 hours in a day. When he was 8 years old he made his appearance in 'Big And Little Wong Tin Bar'. He played the son of the great Taiwanese star Li Li-hua. After this Jackie appeared in several of her series.
After leaving school he was caste in 'Master With Cracked Fingers'. In the following years he appeared as an extra in films like 'Chinese Connection' and 'Enter The Dragon' where Bruce Lee was the main man. Bruce Lee died in 1973 and there started a competition between Bruce Li, Bruce Le, Dragon Lee and Jackie but all failed. Then he went to Australia to spend some time with his parents. In Australia he was given the name of Jackie Chan by his father's friend. After some time he came back to Hong Kong and was caste in Lo Wei's 'New Fist Of Fury'. It was a disaster. Then he appeared for Ng See Huen's 'Snake In Eagle's Shadow' which was a movie of comedy mixed with action. It became a hit. Then 'Drunken Master' got released and it broke all box-office records in Hong Kong. Then after doing some more films he made a move to Hollywood and was immediately cast in 'The Big Brawl' and in the star studded 'Cannonball Run'.
In 1985, he was seen in 'The Protector' which was a flop. Then he went to Hong Kong and started shooting for his films like 'Police Story' and 'Armour Of God'.
While shooting for 'Armour Of God' he fell from 20 ft high, broke his skull and went to coma. He had to miss the shooting for a few days. Later appearing for a Jackie's stunt Maggie Cheung needed 17 stitches, but this also did not stop Jackie. Then he began to spread his magic in America with 'Drunken Master 2' in 1994, 'Dead Heat', hugely successful 'Rumble In The Bronx' (became number one in the States), 'First Strike' with Stanley Tong, 'Mr Nice Guy' with Sammo Hung, 'Who Am I?', 'Rush Hour' with Chris Tucker, 'Gorgeous', 'The King Of Comedy', 'Gen-X Cops', 'The Accidental Spy', 'Rush Hour 2', 'The Tuxedo', 'Shanghai Knights', 'The Twins Effect', 'Enter The Phoenix', 'Around The World In 80 Days', 'New Police Story', 'The Blade Of The Rose' (his son made his debut with this) and 'Rush Hour 3'.
As far his personal life goes Jackie married Feng-Jiao Lin in 1983 and his son was born on that same year. He also had relations with former Miss Asia Elaine Ng and they also have a daughter. Other than working in films he helps in charity. He assists Red Cross and once made a huge donation in China. Therefore he was named the Philanthropist for Children in China. He helped in saving forests in China. He was also named the Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
